Overdrive on or off.

I am a little confused about overdrive on or off.Have been a lot of reading on the web about this.I know when its off you have no 5th gear.In my case its 90% city driving.Have been reading on the web from a transmission shop about the 5r55s.They say that the overdrive is working on 2th and 5th gear.So is it better for the transmission for less tear and wear to drive in the city with overdrive off?? 100% stock 2006GT...

Greetings, RedGT

Truthfully, it does not matter.

I hate how early OD kicks in. I turn off the OD until I reach at least 65-70 on the freeway.

I mainly take off overdrive going down hills, saves wear on brakes.. Not sure if this putting more strain on the transmission by it slowing down the car on hills though..

Our OEM trannies are weak POS's and I wouldn't want to put any more strain on them with engine braking than I have to. I would rather burn through rotors and pads than transmissions. Even at the track I throw it into neutral after the 1320.
