Hello all,
Well I took a trip to Newport News, VA this past weekend to visit some family and as I am going down Jefferson Ave, I see 4 stangs at the local Ford dealership.
3 05V6's and 1 05GT.

The GT was Windviel blue and appeared stock.

The V6's were ALL done up.

The first V6 had a custom paint job, sort of like that special edition cobra with the mystic paint job, just like it. The car had 18" chrome bullits on it with the cobra center cap.
So here is where they get cha... The paint job was like 4000.00 grand and the rims were like 2500.00. Bring the price close to around 28 or 29 thousand.

The 2nd V6 was HOT, I mean really HOT. IT was screaming yellow in color. It had 20" five star crome wheels wrapped in Nitto tires. It also had SIDE dual exhaust, and it looked amazing. The exhaust did not come out of a body kit either (there was no boddy kit on the car) they were like free standing. With these very thin rectangular tips. It had the classic black vinyal(sp) mach 1 striping on the hood only and then on the doors there was the old boss stipping heading to the the finders on both sides of the car. It read 4.0 on the fenders through the stripping.
Rims: $3200.00
Exhaust: $600.00
Stripping:$500.00
Totaling: 29 or 30 thousand

And last but not least, there was a black V6. Red stripping from front to back. 18" chrome bullits. Not body kit. It had the exact exhaust as the screaming yellow above (HOT).
Rims: $2500.00
Exhaust:$600.00
Stripping: $395.00
Totaling: 26 or 27 thousand.

In short the cars looked great, if I had the camera I would post pics and yes I know , but I had to share.

Is Ford doing it's thing?? Thoughts??

Sounds like a dealer trying to do something to move their V6 inventory and make them unique.

One of the dealers by me (I'm in the Metro Detroit area, so there are about 10 Ford dealerships nearby), has stripes, custom wheels, paint jobs, etc. on all of their V6s and GTs.

dealers are starting to do that around here to. Apparently a lot of people have seen my car and go to the dealer thinking that mine is factory. So now they are putting rims, scoops, etc on them.

I do not like what the dealers are doing to the V-6's and I'd never buy one looking that way. A lot that way are just setting on lots. But others do, because there's a few on the road.

Same here... the V-6s are getting dressed up, and the GTs are wearing the clothes they came in...

But $3200.00 for rims, come on. I could get like 3 sets with that type of cash.

You guys think that is good, check out Galpin Ford.

I was going to get my GT from them, however found my baby waiting up north. Galpin does its own thing, MAINLY to the V6s, even some GTs, but BOY i gotta tell ya, they look SO beautiful....

There was a white V6 with full body kit, dual exhausts (sounded almost as good as ours) blue stripes, 19" 5 spokes and dropped. It looked AWESOME...I would've jumped on it if i werent interested in the GT. Galpin usually has about 7-10 "galpinized" stangs on the showroom floor.

They do the V6's because when they add up all this stuff the price of the car is still sellable, meaning it will be in the 28k-30k range. This way they can sell to someone who wants a pimped ride and isn't concerned with performance. If they do it to a GT, then the price gets up there out of range of some of the younger buyers.

I have seen the same thing around here, V6's pimped out at the dealer with lots of bling bling and the GT's are stock.

It is happening all over. One would wonder how dealers from all over the USA have come up with the same ideas for the same product which include the generally identical markups. You don't think Ford suggested a consensus by way of a memo on the best approach to market the Mustang as to keep the prices up? I guess not, otherwise Ford might be accused of participating and fascilitating a price gauging strategy and some might interpret that action as collusion.

My local dealer tried that on 2 of their V6's. One just had rims but the other had a body kit, rims, and louvers... they've both been there for over 4 months while all the others have been sold.

My dealership had a roush and some of them had stripes on em but that's about it. Didn't really see any souped up V6's. But that was when I bought my car, I haven't been back since, so they may have started to

"That" dealer is where I bought my GT. I ordered on X-plan, last November. I doubt that they would do that today. Took 21 weeks to get my car.
The WB GT that you noticed is USED (3K miles) AND THEY WANT 34K FOR IT!!!!!!

Not to bring up an old topic, but:

Wow. I went and saw a few of these this weekend. I couldn't believe my eyes. I wanted to rip them out of my head. It hurt! WHY! Why do this?!? The only reason I can see is that they do not have any GT's to sell. All they have are V6's. So... in order to move them, they essentially get some folks in the dealership that are looking for a GT. they can't get one, but the money is burning a hole. So they say... well, we have these here. They're priced about the same, and have some cool features like dual exhaust and such.

I heard they were sending these cars off to local performance shops to get the mods done. They looked TERRIBLE.

the paint on the skirting didn't match. The skirting didn't even FIT correctly. They dualed out most of them. The WORST were 2 of them that had these HUGE rims on them and what looked like TRUCK tires! NO! Say it ain't so! I can't believe Ford is letting these dealers DESTROY brand new cars that are selling just fine on their own.

This same dealer also had 2 Saleens (50 and 70k respectively) and a roush. It was terrible seeing all of that plastic. I think the one that hurt the worst was a Premium V6 vert that had the Sport Appearance package. The dealer went and COVERED the inside of the car with the aftermarket faux metal inserts. It was just terrible to see. They RUINED an otherwise PERFECT looking vert! UGH!

:notnice:
