What would you do with

$350.00 if you had a stock 2000 Mustang V6?

I just bought a K & N FIPK (my first mod ever) that I'm going to install tomorrow, so that's off the list....

Any suggestions?

Is your car a manual or automatic?

If it's a manual a short-throw shifter is a nice addition.

Another option is a less restrictive exhaust. You could even do dual exhaust if you want, but you may have trouble staying under $350 unless you can do it yourself.

It's an automatic, so the shifter would be out....

I was thinking seriously about the dual exhaust and just save my nickels to get it done. I thought I saw someone on here saying that the conversion should cost about $500.00, but I'll have to call around up here. I'm wondering if the local parts (when did junk yards become known as parts yards??? lol) yard would have a GT exhaust system cheap. But I'd have to get a GT rear bumper cover too, to replace the existing one and allow a real exit point for the duals...

I was thinking about saving a few more dollars and getting a tuner, but maybe I should wait on that...

My first thought was a chip or tuner as well. Firm up the shift points, probably get a decent gain out of the car.

the other thought that I had was trying to firm up the suspension some with maybe some new springs or something....

But let me ask you a question about the tuner....If I get one and I make a change over to something like a dual exhaust, do I have to get a new program for the tuner?

Mach 1 chin spoiler, Grill delete, black letters for the back bumper, billett fuel door. In addition, I have changed to synthetic only oil and noticed a signifigant increase in power (most tests suggest a 10-15 hp jump) and that takes oil changes from the $15 territory up to $30+ and thats if you are doing yourself.

I am biased. I have done all those exterior mods...but visually they really change the car so I think together they have a big impact.

Personally, also, I think the wheels have to be changed before dual exhuast is added. I made that choice finally and put Mach 1 Rims....but that is a $700 or more thing so.....

I like the idea of the Mach 1 chin spoiler, but I think I want to do the performance mods first...

I think I'm going to get the tuner....it seems like everyone that has used the xcal2 from Bama chips is pretty happy with them.....any pros or cons about using them or anyone else?

I think Doug is one of the best v6 tuners there is. He got his start on 4.0 rangers and explorers.

3 THINGS TO REMEMBER

1) Look fast
2) Sound fast
3) Be fast

Which is the most important to you?

(Taste good and smell good doesnt really apply!)

And before anyone gets on at me I know its not about being fast and sounding good, well you might be right.
(Whoever thought that is a weirdo-its real important)

you could probably find a used take off exhaust set from a GT and have a ypipe made cheaper than a kit from a company.

I'd like to try to find one...I was looking on Ebay, but didn't come up with anything. But I would like to make it a "true" dual exhaust though, if I'm going to spend the money to do it.

Which brings up a question....would I have to change my headers or can I use the existing ones?

You can use the stock ones, but I dont know if a GT mid pipe will bolt up with them. You may need a slight modification.

I was also thinking about getting one of these eventually....it is described as a direct bolt on....so I wouldn't have to weld anything...unless I'm misunderstanding it...

Hey mudshuvel, you're in Hatboro? You're right around the corner from me...I used to play hockey over your way....

With that x-pipe, you may be able to install GT exhaust. You could bolt the x-pipe together, but a lot of people weld them on.

And hey, look at that, Levittown. I guess you played at either Ricochets or Winter Sport.

Is there any advantage to welding them on, compared to bolting them on?

It depends on what you're looking for. If you dont think you'll be taking it off, you can get it welded for 20 bucks at some places. My exhaust is bolted together right now, and Ive had no problems, but there are guys who have issues with leaks with headers and mid pipes. Welding gives a better seal, but it's a lot easier to unthread some bolts than to break a weld open.
