Oil pressure switch

I have a 2003 v6, I got it when it had 29k on it and ever since then, the oil
Pressure guage needle constantly stays in the middle, I never notice it to fluctuate. Any one know what may be wrong with it? If I had an oil pressure problem, would the engine light come on?

The stock oil pressure gauge ( if you want to call it that ) is basically still an "idiot light" . It operates via a sending unit ( really just a switch) that closes and turns the gauge on when the oil pressure is above a certain psi ( factory set) and turns the gauge off when it is below a certian psi there is no in between. If the gauge is faulty it will be with the sending unit, the gauge or in the wiring. No check engine light will be turned on. If you have total loss of oil pressure you will know it. The only way to get a better reading is installing an aftermarket oil pressure gauge.

As long as it stays in the middle while running and not at all times (ie when the car is off) then you have nothing to worry about. If something is wrong with your pressure, you will know it.

There's no need for one, especially on a stock mustang.
