Ford Ditches Mustang Hood Vent Turn Signals

If you dig those classic hood vent-turn signals on the new Mustang and you were planning on buying a 2017 model with the feature, forget about it.

Ford has decided to ax the signal lights inspired by the iconic Mustangs of the sixties, according to Mustang News. Why? Well, that’s a little unclear from Ford, but most suspect that it could stem from the fact that it’s one of those design features that makes more sense on paper.

Reportedly, you need to be at least six-feet tall to even see the turn signals from the driver or passenger’s seat. That said, maybe the turn signals are one of those nostalgic features that are better off left in the past. But it also raises a bigger question of exactly what heritage features on a car should be kept with future designs?

Personally, I’ve always thought that if a design element like the Mustang hood turn signals don’t serve a clear purpose, I’d rather not have them – especially if it raises the cost of the car in any way.

That said, I still think that maintaining some of those classic heritage elements are important, just not at the cost of some more functional features.
