Which Ford Is Best Ford?

When you’re a committed car guy, you go to the annual meetup. For BMW owners it’s Bimmerfest, for Honda owners, it’s Honda Days, and for Ford fans, it’s the Carlisle Ford Nationals.

It’s no wonder, then, that as a Ford owner – specifically, a Vagabond Falcon owner – Mr. Regular paid a visit to this year’s event. Naturally, Mr. R spared no time breaking out his recording equipment on a quest to answer that age-old metaphysical question: “Which Ford is best Ford?”

The resulting video is a look at the show’s diverse selection of Dearborn’s finest, with color commentary as only Mr. Regular can deliver.

Blue Oval Bonanza

You can’t have a Ford show without Mustangs. Mr. Regular begins with a nod to the red-hot new GT350 and its flat-plane V8. Of course when it comes to sheer numbers, few car cliques can hang with the Fox body crowd. Mr. R delivers a montage of 5.0s – and an SVO 4-pot – arranged in order of dollars spent. Voice impressions follow.

Next, it’s on to obscure models and questionable decisions. Ford’s uber-rare angry gerbil, the Shogun, gets an extreme close-up, and is followed by two cars that don’t appear to belong at a Ford meet whatsoever. Also, we learn that Mr. Regular reserves some judgement for the late-model GT350H rent-a-racer clone, and deems a restored ‘70s Broncos “hipster bait.”

Making his way deeper into Ford heaven – er, hell? – Mr. R. sights three second-generation GT40s and a bevy of “Starsky & Hutch” Grand Torinos. Ford of Europe gets a shoutout for the “Jalopnik spank-bank” XR4Ti, Merkur’s pioneering foray into the hot hatchback class, and we visit a small section of the show dedicated to the orphaned Ford Ranger, which earns a be-drawled salute from your favorite Pennsylvanian.

A brief stop at the compact section showcases KIT wannabes and other ‘90s gems, and then it’s into the showroom where new toys like the SVT Raptor and Focus RS are on display.

Not a toy, however, is the minty-fresh 2017 Ford GT at center stage. It’s an impressive example of just what Ford is capable of. The 650-horsepower hypercar marked Ford’s triumphant return to Le Mans racing, and Ford has already received over 7,000 applications for the 500 road cars they plan to build. Our host’s Homer Simpson-style reaction says it all. Which Ford is best Ford? This one is.
