There it is, the first production model of the Shelby GT350R making its way down the Ford assembly line in Flat Rock, Michigan, on the outskirts of Detroit.

Who’s that lucky guy behind the wheel you ask? Well, none other than Ford Chairman Bill Ford, who rightfully should be the one crowned with the honor of ushering in a new era of Mustang Shelby history.

Most Shelby fans looking to get their hands on a GT350 will have to wait, however. In honor of the original 1965 Shelby GT350, Ford is only producing 137 of the 2015 model years of the car – 100 GT350s and 37 GT350Rs, as highlighted in a Motor Authority report. Output will be cranked up for the 2016 models after the first production run is completed.

“This is a special day for all Mustang enthusiasts,” said Ford chairman Bill Ford. “We have taken the GT350 formula to the next level of innovation, style and performance—today the legend continues.”

Yup, we couldn’t have put it better ourselves, Mr. Ford. And we can’t wait to get behind the wheel of your new legend.
