Despite Reports, Australia’s New Mustang to be Just as Burly

For a minute there, we thought buyers of the 2015 Mustang in Australia were about to get shafted, as it was reported that the pony car wouldn’t have the same kick as models sold here in the U.S.

According to some reports, the Australian GT 5.0  would generate 406 horsepower and 387 lb-ft. of torque, as compared to the American version rated at 435 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque. But Ford Australia was quick to refute the story, pointing out that the same engine will be used in both the American and Australian version.

As TechRadar mentions, the confusion was due to the way each country measures performance:

Ford Australia has clarified that the difference stems from the way each country measures engine performance, with US cars using the SAE method, while the DIN standard is used in Australia. The US method allows the engine to be tested without any auxiliary systems, while DIN includes power draining systems like the alternator and water pump.

Good news for our friends down under, but we sincerely doubt it would have made a major impact on sales anyways, considering it’s the first time the Mustang will officially be sold in the Australia.
