92-Year-Old Veteran Still Drives His ’66 Mustang

If there’s one story that’s really struck a chord with Mustang fans this year, it’s this one.

It’s the tale of 92-year-old Virgil Pletcher, who is nearly twice as old as his 1966 Mustang, his favorite of several cars that he’s owned over the past nine decades.

Pletcher was born in Indiana in 1923, and grew up on a farm. He’d developed a love for cars in high school, but quickly found that passion being put on hold when he was drafted to serve in the Navy during World War II.

Some years later, the car lover would rekindle his passion for automobiles, collecting vehicles like a 1949 Ford convertible, a 1954 Studebaker, and a 1984 Camaro Z28.

But it was Pletcher’s Mustang, and its 289-cubic-inc V8 with 225 horsepower, that he gravitated to the most.

“From the very start,” Pletcher told the OC Register, speaking of the model, “the Mustang was a winner.”

That would explain why Pletcher still has the Mustang, original parts and all.
