2013 Mustang Mayhem Dyno Shootout Video: A 3500 HP Battle For Supremacy

Each year AmericanMuscle.com holds the Mustang Mayhem dyno competition. Six of the sickest street cars they could find hit the rollers to see who reigned supreme. The competition consisted of everything from three-valve S197s and Terminator Cobras to GT500s of different vintages and even a Shelby Super Snake.

Despite 95 degree ambient temps, competitors rolled into boost and laid down serious numbers.

But before hitting AmericanMuscle.com’s DynoJet, some new rules were added to keep things interesting. Drivers drew cards to determine their order, with one person receiving a wild card that granted them their position of choice. The real kicker was the 30 minute time limit backed by the last-run policy, which meant only the last pull counted. For example, if after making 500 HP on your first pull you decided to try for more and came up short with 475 HP, well, you were stuck with the 475 HP run–call it dyno gambling!

**Video spoiler alert**

Like all dyno endeavors, the event wasn’t without its problems, as Brett’s boosted and stroked ’01 Cobra had to retire early because of problems. Although many complained about the power-robbing ambient temps, there was no shortage of 600+ HP dyno pulls!

Here are the 2013 Mustang Mayhem results:

Tuning legend, John Lund impressed the field with a 629 HP pull in his 2014 GT500 with nothing more than a tune from the master himself.

This 2005 GT proundly represented the three-valve crowd by cranking out 607 HP through an automatic thanks to a built motor with an Edelbrock blower.

Competition Orange Cobras are as rare as they come and this example was oh so sweet as it cranked out 582 HP thanks to a 2.3L Whipple and plenty of supporting mods.

The owner of this 2001 Cobra was wise to resign from the competition after fueling problems. Too bad, because its 5.0L stroker motor force-fed by a Vortech T-Trim blower would have made some big numbers.
